Pioneers had many worries when they started settling the northeast portion of the Dakota Territory in the late 1870s and into the 1880s. Drought, floods and grasshoppers were just a few of the challenges they faced, but the most devastating danger was fire.
Firefighters from Milbank, with mutual aid from Big Stone, Revillo and Corona, extinguished a fire that consumed the contents of to conjoined buildings that housed compressors at Dakota Granite Sunday, August 4. Crews were dispatched at 4:30 p.m.
