Sara Colombe Awarded American FFA Degree
Sara Colombe, Milbank High School agriculture education teacher and FFA chapter advisor, was has been notified that she will be awarded the prestigious Honorary American FFA Degree. She will receive the award when she attends the 99th National FFA Convention and Expo from Wednesday through Saturday, October 21 to 24, in Indianapolis, IN.
The award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to agricultural education and to the FFA at the national level. Additionally, teachers are selected who have created high quality agricultural education programs which inspire and motivate their students to strive for success.
In addition to being Milbank’s agriculture education teacher and FFA chapter advisor, Colombe is also a South Dakota Association of Agricultural Educators past-president, and a National Association of Agricultural Educators National Agriscience Ambassador.
The American FFA Degree is especially important to Colombe, because as a member she did not receive her Greenhand, Chapter, or State degrees.
“But that doesn’t stop me from providing those opportunities for my FFA members,” Colombe said.
The American FFA Degree is the highest honor awarded to FFA members who have demonstrated a great commitment and significant accomplishments in their supervised agricultural experiences. Fewer than one percent of FFA members annually enjoy this honor.
“No words can express the honor this degree is for me!” Colombe said.
