City Officials Release Water Flushing Plan

Officials with the City of Milbank have released their tentative plan for flushing the community water supply. Residents are reminded that the flushing will be done at hydrants in various zones that were outlined on a map published in the Grant County Review on March 19. Flushing is slated to occur between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m.

The public works staff performs hydrant flushing throughout the year in Milbank. The procedure clears sediment from the water distribution lines and helps maintain water quality. The hydrants are also checked for maintenance issues.

The first round of flushing is this week in an area west of South Dakota Highway 15, involving properties bordering and south of US Highway 12.

The week of March 31 will include the area north of Hwy 12, east to Seventh Street, north to include Lakeview Addition, west to city limits around Farley Park.

The week of April 8 workers are scheduled to flush an area in the south central part of city. It is east of Hwy. 15 to Seventh Street, south of Tenth Avenue to southern city limit.

The week of April 15, the flushing will be in the area east of Seventh Street and south of Tenth Avenue to include Valley View Addition, to south city limit.

In the week of April 22, workers will concentrate on the area east of Hwy. 15, between Seventh and Ninth Streets, from Tenth Avenue to the northern city limits, including Middlebrook Circle.

The last week of April, flushing is planned for the area east of Flynn Drive and south of Hwy 12, east of McBride Street, north of Hwy. 12 to city limit.

Schedules are subject to change and may take longer than planned in response to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
