Milbank Police Warn of Scams
Local law enforcement agencies, along with other law enforcement agencies across the state, have reported an uptick in scams, according to Jake Folk of the Milbank Police Department. “Recently, we have been made aware that people are receiving phone calls from an individual identifying themself as a law enforcement officer. Many times they will tell you that you have a warrant for your arrest and can satisfy that warrant by some form of payment to include gift cards, bitcoin and other methods,” he said. “Please be advised that law enforcement agencies will never ask for payment over the phone to clear up a warrant.”
The local police remind residents to all to be vigilant to any type of scam. “If something does not seem right, it most likely is not legitimate,” Folk added. Never give out personal or banking information to anyone whose true identity cannot be verified.
