Middle School All-State Band
The Milbank Middle School had 27 students complete auditions for the 2025 South Dakota Middle School All-State Band, according to Susan Karels, instrumental instructor for Milbank School District, grades six to 12.
Students prepared scales and two etudes in preparation for the audition. The next event marks the 26th annual Middle School All-State Band Festival, Karels noted. The Band is sponsored by the South Dakota Music Educators Association, with a great opportunity for students who thrive on challenge and expertise. The All-State Band will be staged in Mitchell on March 7 and 8. Audition results will be available by Wednesday, January 15.
Karels reported that the students who worked very hard for their audition submission included:
Sixth grade – Jaxon Bear, Isabelle Karels, Stella Pulling, TyLynn Wellnitz
Seventh grade – Riley Brown, Jenna Pederson, Abigail Porter, Keira Untalan, Nuria Rodriguez-Duron, Jose Sanchez, Azul Perez Guillen, Gunnar Anderson, Callie Myrum, Marley Pinkert, Matthew Unzen
Eighth grade – Alayna Gloe, Bella Hicks, Jada Leigh Wellnitz, Kinley VanHoorn, Bridget Regil, Kylynn Schwandt, Charlotte Swanson, Paisley Ericsson, Cade Grabow, Cooper Mueller, Tristan Hooth, Harper Wendland
Karels prepared the students with assistance from Mrs. Deb Rausch.
