Public Welcome to Fishing, Fireworks Show July 4
Milbank’s Lake Farley Park will be the site of the annual July 4 kids fishing derby and the community fireworks display on Thursday, July 4. All community members and their visitors are invited to participate or spectate during the festivities.
The kids, up to age 14, and their favorite adults will swarm the beach area of Lake Farley and enjoy an evening of fishing from 4 to 6 p.m. The event is free for the kids and will include bait and tackle. There will even be prizes awarded for the finest fishermen and their catches.
The derby is hosted by Rick and Wendy Hentges and the Sons of the American Legion. No registration is needed. El Conde Taqueria Food Truck and Grammy’s Fudge will be open in the park during the fishing derby.
The fireworks show is slated to help the community members with their celebrations of America’s Independence Day. The show is set to light up the sky at 10 p.m. Tommy’s Popcorn will be open starting at 7:30 p.m. for those wishing to buy snacks. Those attending should plan to provide their own seating.
The Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce is coordinating the fireworks show. Chamber representatives will be selling fireworks raffle tickets during the fishing derby and fireworks show.

Milbank police chief Corey Hooth, issued this statement as well, “With the Fourth of July celebration approaching, the Milbank Police Department wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday,” commented Corey Hooth, police chief. “But, as a reminder, when celebrating in the City of Milbank, City Ordinance 9.48.010 prohibits the shooting of fireworks by private citizens.”
The ordinance states that firearms and fireworks are prohibited within city limits: It is unlawful for any person to, within the corporate limits of the city, or within one mile of said corporate limits, discharge or shoot off any pistol, gun or any other firearm or discharge any firecracker, rocket, bomb or any other piece of fireworks of any type or character.
“Our officers join in saying, ‘Happy Birthday America,’ and we wish everyone safe travels,” Hooth concluded.
