In what community do you live and what is your career?

I live on an acreage outside of Hazel which is in Hamlin County. I graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor’s degree, my major is Nursing. Currently, my career is running a campaign as a District 4 House of Representatives.

Briefly describe your prior experience and leadership roles that have prepared you to serve as a state representative. What skills, knowledge and insights do you have that will make you the best candidate to represent the Republican ideals going into the general election in November?

My prior experience has equipped me with the necessary skills and insights to effectively serve as a state representative.
As a Nurse Manager, I played a crucial role in overseeing the operations within our facility. My responsibilities included coordi- nating, organizing, managing, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies, and promoting a culture of safety and excellence. Effective communication skills are essential to articulate expectations clearly, provide constructive feedback, and advocate for resources needed. Strong leadership skills are central to fostering a collaborative work environment and resolving conflicts. Clinical knowledge, staying up to date with best practices and advancements in nursing care is essential to ensure that we are equipped with the necessary skills and training to provide optimal care to our patients. I was involved in developing and imple- menting new protocols or procedures to improve patient outcomes. Lastly, I can think quickly on my feet, prioritize tasks, and make sound judgements, and I am excellent at problem-solving and decision-making.

As a seasoned community leader, I've participated in grassroots organizations, and dedicated my time to volunteering for various local events, children’s programs, community initiatives, church ministries, and health-related training.

Throughout my campaign, I’ve enhanced my ability to listen to people, understand their needs, and will craft solutions that align with our conservative principles. I understand the importance of collaboration in achieving meaningful change, and I'm dedicated to representing the diverse interests of our community with integrity and diligence.

Do you believe a legislator’s role is to lead the people or to be reflective of the people’s wishes? How would you go about fulfilling the responsibility indicated in your answer?

As a potential state legislator, I believe my role will be a combination of leading and reflecting the will of the people I represent. Though elected officials are entrusted with the authority to make decisions and enact laws, we must remain accountable to the needs and desires of the people who elected us. “Under God the People Rule”. To fulfill my responsibilities, I believe in maintaining a collaborative relationship with open lines of communication and leading through transparency and integrity.

Describe the dynamic as it currently exists between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party at the state level. Do you see ways to merge the visions of the two for the betterment of life for the state’s populace or do you believe that there must be a clear victor in the ideology that will direct the state’s destiny?

At the state level, the dynamic between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party has been increasing in polarization. Political polarization can have significant consequences for governance, making it difficult to enact policies that benefit society as a whole and potentially leading to social unrest or instability. I do not support one political ideology prevailing over the other.

As a candidate and potential state representative, I support the importance of fostering a spirit of collaboration to address our complex issues of finding and working to achieve meaningful progress which creates policies that truly serve the interests of our people. The goal should be improving the quality of life for our state's populace.

The state’s political scene is ripe for much discussion, debate and potential action in many areas, such as eminent domain, legalization of marijuana for recreational use and civil liberties – ranging from health care to religion. Please contribute a paragraph about each of three issues you think can be settled in the next two years.

Eminent Domain: We must uphold and defend the principles of property rights enshrined in our United States Constitution, which is crucial for maintaining individual liberty, promoting economic prosperity, and fostering a stable society. As a future potential legislator, I believe it is our duty to safeguard property owners from undue interference or infringement by the government, and private companies. No eminent domain for private gain.
Legalization of Marijuana for Recreational Use: Although I personally oppose the use of recreational marijuana, I understand the residents of this state want legalization. The legalization of marijuana for recreational use is a public health issue and we need to create a framework that mitigates the potential risks. By learning from the experiences of other states, I believe we can develop a responsible approach to cannabis legalization that prioritizes public safety, social equity, and economic opportunity like alcohol.

Civil Liberties: Protecting civil liberties is fundamental to our democratic principles, and there are several areas where legislative action can help safeguard these rights. Whether it's ensuring access to affordable healthcare for all citizens, protecting religious freedoms, or defending individual privacy rights in the digital age, there are opportunities to enact laws that promote justice, equality, and dignity for all residents. By engaging in meaningful dialogue, conducting thorough policy research, and prioritizing bipartisan collaboration, I believe we can advance legislation that strengthens civil liberties and fosters a reasonable society for generations to come.
