Programs Begin at Unity
Early fall athletic programs are underway at Unity Health and Fitness in Milbank.
Cody Pohlen, Unity recreation director, reports that the Lake Farley Park soccer fields are officially being used for flag football. The program requires nine fields, so, according to Pohlen, they were nearly a perfect fit.
The flag football program began on Monday, August 14, and will run through Saturday, September 23. Teams meet on Mondays and Thursdays. On the final day, teams will face off in final competition, dubbed the Super Bowl.
“Whether they are competing for first or fifth place, each team is treated like they are experiencing their very own Super Bowl,” said Pohlen.
One hundred and sixty youth are participating in the program, with more than 40 adult volunteers and more than 20 high school football players.
Registration is open for Unity’s fall soccer program. The program begins on Monday, September 25, and will run on Mondays and Thursdays. The program will end on Thursday, October 19. Divisions are currently available for ages three through 12. Registration will close on Friday, September 15.
Registration for the soccer program is $33. Scholarships are available.
Pohlen notes that a soccer program supervisor is currently sought by the City of Milbank, which operates Unity. Interested parties should contact Unity at 605-432-9236.
