Ambulance District Board
The nominating process is open for the board of the new ambulance tax district in Grant County.
The board will be made up of five directors, each representing a commissioner district.
Prospective board members must gather at least 25 petition signatures from people living in their district. A board member must reside in the district they represent.
Nominating petitions must be filed in the office of the county auditor by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 11. If a petition is mailed via registered mail by August 11, it is considered filed.
The process was open once before, with petitions due on Friday, June 13. Because no one turned in a petition, nominations have opened again.
Board members will oversee the new tax district that will financially support the Grant-Roberts Ambulance Service. In April, the Grant County Commissioners approved forming the tax district. They have proposed a tax of $0.089 per $1,000 of property evaluation.
According to commission assistant Karen Layher, if a board is seated the week of August 14, they could provide a request to the auditor by September 1 and the levy could go into effect in 2024. If the deadline isn’t met, the levy may not be in effect until 2025.
Commissioners have kept funding for the ambulance service in the county’s 2024 budget.
