South Shore Community Development received a $900 grant from the Walmart Foundation to support the community’s bingo events.
The application was a collaborative effort. Stacy Janssen researched the foundation’s grant process, Zach Janssen applied for the grant, and Barb Rude and Peggy Meyer provided necessary information for the application.
“The application process was fairly simple. We first needed to register with CyberGrants FrontDoor, which many companies, including Walmart, use for charitable giving. Once that was completed, we applied for a community grant through the Walmart website,” S. Janssen explained.
The team started the application process on Monday, May 1. They were notified that they had been approved on Wednesday, May 24.
The funds were used for new bingo cards, door prizes and small cosmetic upgrades. According to S. Janssen, the purchases have already been made and will be used in all future bingo events.
In 2022, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation provided more than $1.5 billion in funding and support to initiatives like community development throughout the United States. The company is based in Bentonville, AR.
