Public Meeting Set To Focus on FEMA Floodplain Map
Area residents are invited to a public informational meeting on Tuesday, February 7, at 7 p.m. at the Milbank Visitor Center. The meeting, hosted by Grant County, the City of Milbank and the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, will include a presentation and question/answer period. The purpose of the meeting is to help explain the public’s responsibility to citizens who would like to request changes to the recently proposed Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Floodplain Map. The map is currently in a 90-day review period that ends on April 1.
Those who attend the meeting will have the chance to learn about the updated floodplain map and how it impacts properties in the county and its incorporated cities. The map is used to determine homeowners’ eligibility for flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP.) Grant County’s floodplain maps were last updated in 2009.
