Registration for students in the Milbank School District has been set for Tuesday, August 2, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesday, August 3, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Also. school pictures will be taken for all schools at this time.
Special Olympics will be serving malts starting at 9 a.m. on both registration days. This will be a free-will donation
Registration for the elementary school, middle school and high school will be conducted in the Milbank Elementary School gym. Students and parents in all grades are asked to report during that time. It is extremely important that the school has correct mailing addresses and phone contact information. Parents will be asked to fill out medical emergency information for each student.
When school fees are paid at registration, it makes the first days easier and teachers are able to concentrate on the needs of their students rather than the administrative details.
Milbank Elementary, Middle and High School offices opened July 25. Principals, secretaries and teachers are busy getting ready to start the 2022-2023 school term.
Anyone with questions regarding registration or any other aspect of school, can call the school office at 605-432-6615 (Milbank Elementary School), 605-432-5519 (Milbank Middle School, grades six, seven and eight) and 605-432-5546 (Milbank High School, grades nine through 12).
School Pictures
School pictures for all Milbank students, K–12, will be taken during registration. This does include the seniors, as they will need to have their picture taken for their ID card. Picture packets must be paid for when ordered. Information about the various packets that may be purchased is available in the school lobbies. Parents may also wait to pick up the packet and order form at registration. A separate check payable to Tailfeather Photography is needed for pictures.
Student and Parent
Orientations/Open House
Milbank Elementary School will conduct an open house for all students and parents on Wednesday, August 10, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Orientation for all Milbank Middle School students in grade six and any new middle school students to the district, and their parents, will be staged Wednesday, August 10, at 5:30 p.m, in the theater.
The Milbank Middle School open house for all students in grades six, seven and eight and their parents is Wednesday, August 10, from 6 to 7 p.m.
All Seasons Sports Meeting
A sports meeting will be conducted on Tuesday, August 9, at 7 p.m. in the theater, for all athletes and parents in grades seven through 12 who plan to participate in any athletic activity. Students who plan to participate in activities which are not scheduled to begin in the fall are required to attend the meeting. Student activity policies will be covered and sport specific team meetings conducted.
Fees
Visa, Master Card and Discover credit cards can be used for fees that are affiliated with the school district.
Meals are as follows: breakfast (student K-12), $2.25 per meal; breakfast (adult) $2.80 per meal; lunch (student K-5), $3.25 per meal and (student 6-12), $3.50 per meal
lunch (adults), $4.60 per meal; milk, $.65 per carton
Activity/concert tickets for students can be purchased at the time of registration. Fees are $20 per year for students in grades one through eight and $25 per year for students in grades nine through 12. Activity tickets admit students to all locally sponsored school activities for the entire year.
Individual admission to games and concerts are $5 for adults and $3 for students, with the exception of double header games which will cost $6 for adults and $4 for students. Homecoming coronation and prom grand march will have an admission fee of $2.
Adult activity/concert passes for all locally sponsored events can be purchased in the Central Office at any time. Passes can’t be shared between individuals. Season passes will be available for $100. A 10-punch pass is $40. A 10-punch pass can only be used for the 2022-2023 school year. Activity passes for senior citizen, age 65 and over, will be available for an annual fee of $25. These can be purchased in the Central Office at any time.
Yearbook fees are elementary school $20, middle school $20 and
high school $45.
Band Students
Sarlettes Music will be on hand in the band hallway Wednesday, August 10, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., should students have any needs.
High School Band Students
High school band students should report to the band room during registration for band uniform fitting. Mrs. Karels will be available both days in the band room. Anyone unable to attend during registration, should contact Mrs. Karels. Parents of freshman band students are encouraged to come to uniform fitting to visit briefly with Mrs. Karels.
MHS Band students are asked to mark Tuesday, August 9, at 8 p.m. on their calendars as the first band rehearsal.
Parking Passes
If students plan on driving to school, they will be required to obtain a new parking pass. This process requires filling out the application and paying the $10 fee. This fee can be collected at the payment table at registration or in the high school office.
New Students
New students should present a certified copy of their birth certificate, a copy of immunizations records and Social Security number. Please note that the hospital copy of the birth certificate is not official and cannot be accepted by the school.
Students new to the district are urged to visit their school building during regular office hours. Principals and their staff will be glad to give a tour of the building, assist with locker combinations, and answer any questions.
School Nurse/Immunizations
School nurses will be available to discuss any student health concerns or to answer questions about immunizations. Parents will be asked to fill out medical emergency information.
All students need to have immunizations up-to-date in order to be admitted to school. The school nurses will be on hand during registration and, if they have not already done so, all kindergarten parents should report during registration to present their student’s immunization record.
According to South Dakota law, minimum immunizations requirements for kindergarten through twelfth grade are:
1. Four or more doses of diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis-containing vaccine (DPT). At least one dose must have been given on or after age four.
2. Three or more doses of poliovirus vaccine. At least one dose must have been given on or after age four.
3. Two doses of measles/mumps/ rubella virus (MMR) after the age of 12 months.
4. Chickenpox (varicella) immunization or verification that the child has had the disease.
Entry into 6th grade school year across the state need:
• Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, Pertussis)
• MCV4 (Meningococcal ACYW)
Students age 11 or older are required to get one dose of the Tdap vaccine as well at MCV4 vaccine to enter sixth grade. The new law also requires all transfer students entering grades six through 12 to receive the vaccinations. Students entering sixth grade who are 10 years old will have 45 days after turning 11 to be vaccinated.
