During the early morning hours of Monday, July 11, several vehicles in Milbank were broken into, according to Boyd VanVooren, Milbank police chief. He reports that at approximately 6 a.m., the police received a call of a suspicious person who was looking into vehicles in the area near the St. Williams Care Center.
An officer responded but was unable to locate the person. The officer searched some buildings, campers and backyard areas. Later in the morning, the police received six calls about vehicle burglaries. In addition, they received reports of two stolen bikes. The matter is under investigation. Officials believe several other vehicles were gone through without anything taken.
VanVooren advises the public that the possible suspect was wearing white shorts and carrying a backpack. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police at Milbank292a@milbanksd.com or 605-432-5650.
