Livestock Forage Disaster Program Offering Payments to Producers
The Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) offers payments to eligible livestock producers with eligible livestock. It also offers payment to producers of grazed forage crop acreage.
The payments help with grazing losses suffered on native or improved pastureland. This can be land with permanent or planted grazing cover.
Farm Service Agency (FSA) will calculate payments equal to one, three, four or five times the LFP monthly payment rate. The payment rate for drought is equal to 60 percent of the lessor of the monthly feed cost. FSA calculate this by using the normal carrying capacity of the grazing land. Since Grant County was in at least the D2 (Severe Drought) status on the Drought Monitor for at least eight consecutive weeks, livestock producers may get assistance payments equal to one month. Producers must apply for payment and submit required supporting documents within 30 calendar days after the calendar year end of the loss year to the local FSA office. The Grant County FSA Office is currently accepting LFP applications.
USDA Service Centers are open for business by phone appointment. While program delivery staff will continue to come into the office, they will be working with producers by phone, email and using online tools. All Service Center visitors wishing to conduct business with the FSA, Natural Resources Conservation Service, or any other Service Center agency are required to call their Service Center to schedule an appointment.
