Award Winners Named
The 2019-2020 Milbank Area girls basketball awards were announced this week, but the team wasn’t allowed to have their usual awards potluck because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Jaecy Engebretson was named most valuable player, and Tracy Pillatzki, received the sixth man award. Madi Thue received the D up award, and Maurina Street was named most improved. The spirit of the Bulldog award went to Engebretson. The most improved junior varsity player was Tatum Berry.
Engebretson and Pillatzki were named to the 2020 Academic All-State Team by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association. Athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or better to earn a selection. Engebretson was also selected to the Northeast Conference All-Conference third team.
Earning a major M were Lindsey Mertens, Isabella Anderson, Hallie Schulte, Tatum Berry, Madi Thue, Tracy Pillatzki, Maurina Street and Jaecy Engebretson. Earning a minor m were Emily Wollschlager, Camryn Wiese, Jenna Dexter, Elsie Seffrood, Ellie Neugebauer, Madi Loeschke, and student managers Averie Engebretson and Taryn Dusky.
The Milbank area girls basketball team extended their thanks to assistant coach Eric Townsend, middle school coaches Kelli Hoff and Paul Anderson, and the parents and fans for their support during the season.
