Hot Reads for Cool Nights Program Starts at Library

Hot Reads for Cool Nights
Program Starts at Library
Punxsutawney Phil has predicted six more weeks of winter.  It is the perfect time to pick up a book and start reading according to the staff at the Grant County Public Library in Milbank.
The library has a display of Hot Reads for Cool Nights with some of the most checked out books since 2019. These books, already proven as hot reads by local readers, will surely keep patrons warm these last cool nights of South Dakota winter.
Hot Reads for Cool Nights is a reading program offering great reading suggestions for six different age groups, from preschool to adults. Readers are encouraged to pick up the list of these suggested reads for the appropriate age group, and make a reading selection. Books can be checked out, or read in eBook or audiobook form, all available for free through the library to Grant County residents.
Each book comes with a bookmark ballot for the reader to give a star rating vote for book. The bookmark ballot is returned with the book and will be used to determine a Grant County Public Library Book of the Year at the conclusion of the program April 1.
A drawing at the conclusion of program for a winner in each category from all the returned book mark ballets will be conducted. An adult winner will be drawn from all votes placed and will receive a local dining certificate.
The high school and middle school lists consist of 24 books. The student reading and placing the most votes from each the high school and middle school will win a tablet. Ties will be broken by a drawing.
The book lists for the younger divisions come from the South Dakota Children’s book award nominees. They include a Prairie Bud list for prekindergarten to first graders, a Prairie Bloom list for second and third graders and a Prairie Pasque list for fourth and fifth graders. The winner drawn in each division will receive Ol’ Mill Bucks.
The votes will be tallied and a Grant County Public Library Book of the Year will be announced in each division. There are eights weeks left of the program so patrons are encouraged to get started reading.
