Sunni Josephson began her duties as the park manager at Hartford Beach State Park on Big Stone Lake on Monday, March 25.
Josephson succeeds Shawn Hendricks, who was in the role from March of 2019 until late in the fall of 2023.
Josephson graduated from South Dakota State University in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in conservation planning and park management and a minor in rangeland ecology management. Her work experience with Game, Fish and Parks includes campground attendant at Lake Vermillion, naturalist intern at The Outdoor Campus in Sioux Falls and park manager intern at Custer State Park. The variety of work experience has helped her gain knowledge in running state parks and building great teams of park staff, according to Josh Cleveland, district park supervisor. She also has experience in outdoor education programming.
“I’m so grateful to come into a beautiful area like this,” Josephson said. “Previous park managers have done a wonderful job getting the park in such great shape. I can’t wait to continue growing Hartford Beach and getting to know the community.”
“We are very excited to have Sunni as part of our team at Hartford Beach as we continue to improve the park and its experiences for our park users and the local communities,” Cleveland said.
Josephson is a native of Sioux Falls and enjoys golf, camping, hiking, kayaking and fishing.
