March 9, 2020
Members present: Lisa Amdahl, Joe Johnston, Carrie Rauen and Ferdy Zirbel. Absent: Mark Miller. Also present: Mike Schmidt, Cheri Zirbel, Alexis Gerdes and Becky Hubsch.
At 6:00 p.m. Chairman Zirbel called the meeting to order. No Conflict of Interest was recognized.
20094 Motion by Amdahl Second by Rauen approve the agenda as written.  All voted aye. Motion carried.
Public Communications: Alexis Gerdes informed the Board 6th graders completed the local science fair, with some students advancing to the ECC competition. Cheri Zirbel shared elementary took part in Dr. Seuss Read Across America Week, and Kindergarten graduation will be held May 20, 2020.
20095 Motion by Johnston Second by Rauen to approve the February 12, 2020 minutes. All voted aye. Motion carried.  
20096 Motion by Rauen Second by Amdahl to approve the financial statements. All voted aye. Motion carried.  
20097 Motion by Johnston Second by Amdahl to approve the monthly claims for the month of March 2020.  All voted aye.

20098 Motion by Rauen Second by Johnston to Enter into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing personnel, (SDCL 1-25-2:1) at 6:16 p.m.  Chairman Zirbel declares them out of executive session at 6:26 p.m.
20099 Motion by Amdahl Second by Rauen to Enter into Executive Session for the purpose of student discussion, (SDCL 1-25-2:2) at 6:27 p.m.  Chairman Zirbel declares them out of executive session at 6:32 p.m.
Superintendent’s Report: Mr. Schmidt gave the Board a legislative update, and a facility schedule for upcoming events taking place at the school.  2020 Grizzly track schedule is out; Mr. Schmidt will be contacting ASBSD to conduct a gavel training; and informed the Board the District does not have any one on staff qualified to teach Driver’s Education this year. Reporting for the Dean of Students the Comprehensive Needs Assessment group took part in a meeting in Watertown this past month. 
Business Officer’s Report: School Board Election will be held on April 14, in the school concession area from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tamijo Bronson, Jennifer Zirbel, and Carrie Rauen will be running for the two open seats. Dawn Marie Johnson was selected as a 2020 Dreamstarter for Running Strong for American Indian Youth. Discussed the opportunity for the Board to form committees to help with long term planning for the district. 
20100 Motion by Amdahl Second by Johnston to approve Board Policy: Pregnant/Parent Student. All voted aye. Motion carried. 
20101 Motion by Johnston Second by Rauen to approve Zach Noffsinger as 2020 Track Coach for $1,854. All voted aye. Motion carried. 
20102 Motion by Amdahl Second by Johnston to approve Election workers Shirley Hills, Donna Jensen, and Sandra Christofferson. All voted aye. Motion carried. 
20103 Motion by Rauen Second by Amdahl to approve superintendent, and certified teaching staff as collective bargaining units.  All voted aye. Motion carried. 
20104 Motion by Johnston Second by Amdahl to approve the resignation of Becky Hubsch as the district business manager. All voted aye. Motion carried. The Board thanked Becky for her years of service. 
20105 Motion by Amdahl Second by Rauen to adjourn the March meeting at 7:07 p.m. All voted aye. Motion carried.
The next regular scheduled board meeting will be on April 6 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with staff negotiations in the School Library.
