Several Events Scheduled for Ag Appreciation Day
The public is invited to partake of a special breakfast and two informational sessions that are scheduled in celebration of National Ag Day on Tuesday, March 21.
“The ag appreciation event marks a nationwide effort to tell the true story of American agriculture,” said Sara Koepke, Grant County 4-H youth program advisor. “Thank you, farmers, for all you do. We’re so fortunate to have dedicated growers and producers who feed our nation.”
The day begins with a pancake feed from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the Grant County 4-H complex on Flynn Drive in Milbank. The menu includes eggs, sausage, fruit and beverages. A free-will donation will be collected. A portion of proceeds will benefit Grant County 4-H and the Milbank FFA chapter. Door prizes will be awarded.
After the breakfast, the Grant County Commission and courthouse staff will host two presentations at the 4-H complex. Brian Hefty from Ag PhD will present a drainage and tiling seminar from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., Chris Walters from West-Con Cooperative will give a grain bin entry safety presentation. A lunch of barbeques and chips will be served at noon. After lunch, a live grain engulfment rescue demonstration will be conducted at West-Con’s Twin Brooks facility.
“We have been looking for an appropriate time to put on an agriculture drainage workshop. We heard about the Chamber’s Ag Day pancake breakfast and the timing was perfect to collaborate with them to host these two presentations,” said Steve Berkner, Grant County planning and zoning officer.
