Residents Can Learn About CodeRED at Local Farm Show

Area residents will have the chance to learn more about the CodeRED emergency alert system and how to enroll during the Grant County Farm and Home Show, Friday and Saturday, January 10 and 11. Enrollment instruction forms will be available at the Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce booth and the local law enforcement booth in the high school.
The Milbank City Council and the Grant County Commission took action in August to switch over to the new high-speed emergency mass notification system. The two organizations have contracted with OnSolve, based in Florida, for service.
The new system will eventually replace the Notify system currently used by the City of Milbank. While Notify is still in place, residents can begin registering with the new CodeRED system by going to the website, https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/BFA422074595 and completing the form. There is also a link on the county website at www.grantcounty.sd.gov. Alternately they can text “Grant” to 99411 to receive a direct link to the enrollment form on their mobile devices.
“CodeRED is an emergency notification system in which the participant can control how they want to be notified of alerts – by phone call,
text, email or all three,” commented John Forman, city administrator. “We encourage residents to sign up for a ‘managed account’ as it allows residents to make changes to their selections by adding or subtracting numbers or addresses, and also selecting the types of notifications they receive.”
The CodeRED system can also notify the participants of weather hazards such as severe thunderstorms, flash floods, tornados and winter weather-related storms. The governmental agencies can also use the system for emergency announcements like evacuations or hazards situations in addition to general issues, such as snow alerts, water main breaks, closed streets and more.
Those who download the CodeRED mobile app will be able to receive free notifications nation-wide as they travel within the United States.
Questions about the CodeRED system can be directed to Kevin Schuelke, Grant County emergency management director, at 605-432-4637, or Forman at 605-432-9575.
