Red Cross Blood Drive Nets 51 Units from Locals

The Red Cross blood drive conducted at the American Lutheran Church in Milbank on Thursday, May 21, was a resounding success, according to Karen Russman, local Red Cross coordinator.
The goal of the drive was to collect 40 units and a total of 51 units were collected. Among the 59 donors who had made appointments, 48 participated. There were two deferrals and three cancellations.
Many of the donors have given multiple times reaching gallon status with this drive. A breakdown of the number of donors reaching thresholds is as follows: one gallon, 11 donors; two gallons, five; three gallons, eight; four gallons, three; five gallons, two; seven gallons, one; eight gallons, two; nine gallons, one, and 10 gallons, two.
Two donors reached outstanding donor levels. They were Tom Oakes, 12 gallons, and Roger Briggs, 14 gallons.
“I should also mention that eight of the donors were POWER RED donors. That means that when they donated, they each gave two units for a total of 16 units,” Russman added.
Russman expressed appreciation to the American Lutheran Church congregation for hosting the drive and to the helpers and volunteers. They were Carol Kirchberg, Susan Leddy, Ruth Gulck, Laurie Streege, and Linda Harms. “Your help with set up, sign in, canteen supervision, providing lunch for the Red Cross workers, kitchen clean up was so very much appreciated,” she said. “This was my first time coordinating a Red Cross blood drive, and your help allowed this drive to run so smoothly it was like we’ve been a team for years.”
The next drive will be on Tuesday, August 26, from noon to 6 p.m. and will be at the American Lutheran Church.
“I’m looking forward to seeing many of you back in August, and I am hoping to see some new donors as well,” Russman concluded.
