PPE Color Run Fundraiser Set for September 21

PPE Color Run Fundraiser Set for September 21

Members of Milbank Parents Promoting Education (PPE) have planned a color run fundraiser for elementary school students on Thursday, September 21. It will be the group’s primary fundraiser for the year.

Students started fundraising efforts on Tuesday, September 5, and will continue through Monday, September 18. The top-selling students in each grade and the top-selling class will win bonus prizes. Any student who gets a donation will be entered into a drawing for a laptop. All students with signed permission slips will be able to participate in the run, regardless of donation amount.

The junior kindergarten run will be at 11:15 a.m. The run for first graders will begin at 12:10 p.m., kindergarteners at 12:30 p.m., preschoolers at 12:55 p.m., second graders at 1:15 p.m., third graders at 1:30 p.m., fourth graders at 1:45 p.m. and fifth graders at 2 p.m. Participants will pass color zones staffed by local business volunteers who will throw non-toxic colored powder when the children pass.

The community is invited to attend the event, which will take place in the loop in front of the elementary school. Vehicles should be parked in the high school parking lot.

PPE is a parent-led volunteer group that supports students and staff at Milbank Elementary School. The group coordinates and funds projects at the school throughout the year, including a yogurt breakfast bar and gift for teachers during in-service, food for teachers at conferences, treats for classrooms before winter break, the visiting spring Artist in Residence, Read Across America week in the spring, teacher appreciation week in May, snacks and prizes during standardized testing, and field day. Organizers note that PPE also funds all field trips, provides financial assistance to students for school supplies, and has funded little free libraries, playground equipment and book exchanges. In the current school year, PPE members plan to also have a collaborative event with school resource officer Jake Folk.

Donations to the color run can be given to an elementary school student or mailed to the school district c/o Milbank PPE.

Business sponsors for the event include Pivotal Joy Dance, Unity Health and Fitness, First Bank and Trust, Whetstone Valley Electric Cooperative, Whimsy on Main, Milbank Tobacco Coalition, Twin Valley Tire, Johnson Dental, Exit Realty/Denice Hooth, Al's Body Shop, Urban Threads, State Farm/Jan Scriver, Team Fischer Realty, Border Lake Insurance, First Interstate Bank, The Bank 301, Grant County Title Company, Jodi’s Hair Studio, Advanced Technologies, Inc., Mundwiler Funeral Home and Valley Queen Cheese.
