Police Report Burglaries of Parked Vehicles

Numerous vehicles that were parked with the doors left unlocked have been rummaged through and items taken from them in recent weeks. “Please do not leave money, guns or other valuables in your vehicles,” Boyd VanVooren, Milbank police chief, advises. “Also, always keep your cars locked.”
The first report of the burglaries occurred two weeks ago at an apartment complex on Milbank Avenue. According to VanVooren, in that incident, the cars had been rummaged through, but nothing was taken.
More recently, a purse was taken from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 600 block of Sixth Street. More incidents occurred over the September 21-22 weekend and involved vehicles at Middlebrook Circle on N. Lloyd Street. In the most recent event, the burglar(s) took cash from an unlocked car.
“If anyone sees suspicious activity, day or night, please call the Milbank Police Department at 605-432-5650,” VanVooren said. He noted that most of the incidents are happening in the evening hours.
