New Application Process for Cancer Walk Funds Announced

The core committee of It Only Takes A Spark Cancer Walk announced this week that the process of applying for assistance is changing. The fund exists to help local residents who have been diagnosed with cancer by providing financial support.

It Only Takes A Spark committee and team members are committed to the cancer patients of Grant County, according to Ann Tuchscherer, a member of the core committee. As a result of the temporary closure of the courthouse, the committee members ask that cancer patients use the mail for their applications and bills for the time being.

New applications, accompanied by a pathology report and a release of information form, should be mailed to P.O. Box 105, Milbank, SD 57252. Upon receipt of the application, a member of the core committee will contact that individual.

As in the past, application forms can be picked up at the local pharmacies, the various county clinics, Milbank Area Hospital, Ortonville Areas Health Services and the Watertown Cancer Center. The application and release forms are also available on the It Only Takes A Spark website, takesaspark.org.

For those who have already applied for assistance, bills should be mailed to P.O. Box 105 in Milbank. Those wanting help with bills should submit them promptly as the committee can then take advantage of prompt pay discounts. For larger bills, it is suggested that patients also apply for financial assistance from the health institution that is treating them.

Cancer patients who travel out of town for treatment can access gas cards by calling Tuchscherer at 605-432-6023 or 605-949-2287. A photo of the appointment card/schedule should be emailed or texted to Tuchscherer prior to the appointment, and then the cards will be mailed out. Patients who do not have access to the technology to do this should call Val VanLith, Grant County ICAP officer, at 605-432-6571 to arrange a pick-up or mailing of gas cards.
