Milbank was one of the host sites for several regional gatherings that were part of the statewide emergency operation center (EOC) preparedness exercises conducted Tuesday and Wednesday, April 11 and 12.
The sessions included emergency management personnel from the counties of Grant, Roberts, Deuel, Day, Marshall, Brown, Spink, Codington, Clark and Hamlin. Local law enforcement, first responders, ambulance personnel and county and city officials were also invited to participate.
The training was conducted at the Grant County 4-H grounds. According to Kevin Schuelke, Grant County emergency management director, the statewide training included the EOC main office in Pierre and each of the regional sessions simultaneously training for large-scale incidents that would exhaust local resources.
