Legion Baseballers Earn Win
in First Game of the Season
 
After a delayed start because of COVID-19, the Milbank American Legion Post No. 9 Legion baseball team is back in action. They routed Clark 19-9 Tuesday, June 23, at Milbank; fell to Lake Norden 1-0 Thursday, June 25, at Lake Norden, and earned a 16-11 win over the Claremont Honkers Sunday, June 28, at a tournament in Aberdeen.

The Milbank Legion baseball team's offense was running on all cylinders as they cruised past Claremont 16-11 Sunday, June 28, at a tournament in Aberdeen. Singles from Noah Steinlicht, Cole Swenson, and Brodie Holtquist drove home five runs and Milbank led 5-0 in the top of the first inning.
Doubles from Micah Dietmeir and Holtquist, and singles from Steinlicht and Swenson powered home more runs for a 9-1 Milbank lead in the top of the second inning.
Claremont scored five runs in the second inning, and trailed 9-6.
Kellen Hoeke and Kaden Krause singled, Swenson doubled, and two more batters were walked and Milbank’s lead grew to 16-6 in the top of the third inning.
Claremont racked up five runs in the third inning, but still trailed 16-11.
Hoeke and Swenson led the Milbank offense with three hits each. Dietmeir, Holtquist and Steinlicht connected on two hits each.
Brady Femling picked up the win on the mound for the Legion. He gave up 10 hits, allowed 11 runs and struck out four batters over two innings.

The Milbank Legion baseball team fell to Lake Norden 1-0 Thursday, June 25, at Lake Norden. Lake Norden took an early 1-0 lead after a fly out which led to a runner tagging up and scoring for the opponents. 
Milbank’s offense struggled to get hits in the game. Kellen Hoeke managed to connect on a single in the bottom of the fifth, but the team couldn’t capitalize.
Kaden Krause singled and Brady Femling doubled in the bottom of the sixth, but didn’t manage to score any runs for Milbank. 
K. Krause, Femling, and Hoeke produced Milbank’s only hits in the contest.
Brodie Holtquist took the loss on the mound for Milbank. He gave up eight hits, one run, and struck out four batters through seven innings.

Milbank 19, Clark 9
The Milbank Legion baseball team cruised past Clark 19-9 on Tuesday, June 23, in its first home contest of the season. Brodie Holtquist connected on a triple and Micah Dietmeir singled to give Milbank a 3-1 advantage in the bottom of the first. Another run was scored on Parker Schell’s fly ball error for a 4-1 lead.
Milbank’s lead grew to 7-1 in the bottom of the second inning after Kellen Hoeke connected on a single and drove home Brady Femling and Holtquist, and a walk brought Kaden Krause home.
Milbank racked up nine runs in the third inning. Holtquist, Hoeke, Schell, K. Krause, and Kacen Huber each drove home runs after hitting singles in the inning. Milbank enjoyed a 16-3 advantage in the bottom of the third.
Two singles by Clark and a sacrifice fly closed the gap to 16-7 in the top of the fourth inning.
Schell and K. Krause connected on singles in the bottom of the fourth inning and drove home two runs. Breyden Miller reached home after a passed ball for a 19-7 lead.
Schell led all Milbank hitters with three hits on the day. K. Krause, Huber, Holtquist, and Hoeke recorded two hits each. Femling, Dietmeir, and Matt Christensen had one hit each.
Huber earned the win from the mound for Milbank. He gave up eight hits, nine runs and struck out five batters through four innings.
