Milbank Area earned a win over Britton-Hecla Thursday, February 13, but fell to Tri-Valley Saturday, February 15, in Colton in girls basketball action this week. The Lady Bulldogs are 3-13 overall.

The Milbank Area girls varsity basketball team suffered a 55-19 loss at the hands of Tri-Valley Saturday, February 15, in Colton.
“Not a lot of positives from the Tri-Valley varsity game,” said Brian Pauli, coach. “We will move on and prepare for our next game against Groton Area on Thursday.”
Milbank trailed 11-5 after the opening quarter and faced a 23-8 half-time deficit. The Lady ‘Dawgs were down 49-15 at the start of the fourth period.
Maurina Street fired in seven points to lead Milbank. Jaecy Engebretson tallied six points; Isabella Anderson, five, and Lindsey Mertens, one. Madi Thue and Street grabbed five rebounds each, and Anderson, four. Mertens and Engebretson dished out two assists each, and Anderson and Street had two steals each in the contest.
Milbank connected on five of 38 (13 percent) attempts from the field and grabbed 28 rebounds.
Tri-Valley hit 18 of 52 (25 percent) attempts from the field and tallied 44 rebounds.

A strong first half from the Milbank girls basketball team led to a 53-30 routing of the Britton-Hecla Braves Thursday, February 13, in Milbank.
A pair of Jaecy Engebretson three-pointers produced a 6-2 Milbank lead to in the opening minutes of the first quarter, and Isabella Anderson’s jumper made for an 11-2 advantage. Lindsey Mertens canned a corner three, and Maurina Street hit a layup for a 17-8 advantage and Milbank led 18-10 at the end of the first quarter.
Anderson nailed a jumper to open the second quarter while Madi Thue dropped in a bucket and Street nailed two baskets for a 28-15 advantage. The ‘Dawgs headed into the locker room at the half with a 32-17 lead.
Anderson found the lane and connected on a layup for a 34-20 lead and Thue faked a defender out for an easy layup and 40-20 advantage in the early minutes of quarter three. Anderson got the roll and hit a shot as the quarter buzzer went off for a 46-22 advantage at quarter’s end.
The offense continued to roll in the final quarter with Thue canning a free throw and Engebretson dishing the ball to Street twice for easy buckets enroute to the win.
Street produced a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Bulldogs. Anderson added 14 points; Engebretson, 10; Thue, five; Mertens, three, and Tatum Berry, two. Mertens dished out four assists, and Engebretson, three. Thue had three steals, and Mertens and Anderson, two each.
Milbank hit 21 of 67 (31 percent) attempts from the field and tallied 49 rebounds.
Britton-Hecla connected on nine of 40 (23 percent) attempts from the field and grabbed 39 rebounds.
