Milbank 0, Deuel 3
The Milbank Area volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Deuel on Tuesday, September 1, in Clear Lake. Set scores were 28-26, 25-22, and 25-22.
“I need to get players in positions that give them their best opportunity to be successful. Our line up will continue to change until we can get the chemistry and consistency needed to play together and have good flow,” said Nancy Hoeke, coach. “I’ve got girls that are excited to be playing volleyball and that are willing to work to get better. That’s a good combination to move forward.”
Milbank built an 8-5 lead after Hallie Schulte’s ace early in the first set. The Bulldog lead grew to 15-8 when Jocalynn McFarland served an ace. The lead was extended to 19-13 after Siri Bien racked up two aces.
Milbank took a 24-18 advantage when Madi Thue produced a kill and a block back-to-back. However, Deuel stormed back with seven unanswered points to take a 25-24 advantage. It went back and forth until finally Deuel emerged with a 28-26 match win.
McFarland tied the game at four early in the second set with a kill. The game was knotted at nine after Casside Seezs’ kill. Milbank jumped out to a 15-13 advantage after Thue served an ace.

We have players with little to no varsity experience that are getting court time,” said Hoeke. “I want to see what they can do, but it causes some confusion and mistakes to happen. The things we can control we need to do a better job of such as getting serves in and making sure certain balls are hit or passed ‘in’ instead of in the net or out of bounds.”
Milbank fell into a 12-3 deficit early in the first set. McFarland’s bump-kill brought Milbank to within eight, 15-7. Milbank tried to get something going when McFarland’s kill and Thue’s block brought the score to 21-13. But, Sisseton cruised on to the 25-15 set win.
