Hoeke Claims State Championship

Scott Hoeke of Milbank outdistanced the competition to claim the championship title in the 50-55 men’s division during the South Dakota State Senior Bowling tournament in Madison this past weekend. He was also the overall state champion with a score of 1,414, and earned a paid trip to the national senior bowling event next year.
Hoeke was one of eight local men who participated in the state-level contest. Contestants played in the appropriate age division and singles competed in a six-game series while those in doubles played three games. In the 60-64 age group, Mike Mach took fourth place with 1,298 and Steve Hennen finished in eighth with 1,229. The 55-59 group saw Jim Forrette take third place with 1,374; Pat Rafferty, 1,342; Jim DeJong, 1,273; Dan Sorenson, 1,235, and Wes Bolstad, 1,180.
The doubles team of Bolstad/Forrette took sixth place with 1,336; Mach/Rafferty, 28th, 1,271; Sorenson/Hoeke, 1,229, and DeJong/Hennen, 1,155.
