Eligible for Emergency Aid
Grant County is included in the area where producers are eligible for livestock forage program (LFP) and emergency assistance for livestock, honeybee, and farm-raised fish program (ELAP), according to a recent announcement by the Grant County FSA office personnel. Local producers are reminded that the signup for LFP and ELAP ends on January 30.
LFP provides compensation if livestock producers suffer grazing losses for covered livestock as the result of drought on privately owned or cash leased land or fire on federally managed land.
ELAP covers grazing losses not covered under the livestock forage disaster program (LFP), loss of purchased feed and/or mechanically harvested feed because of an eligible adverse weather event, additional cost of transporting water because of an eligible drought and additional cost associated with gathering livestock to treat for cattle tick fever beginning. ELAP assistance can go back to the date Grant County was first declared D2 on the drought monitor, which would have been July 25, 2023.
