Free Soil Health Workshop
Slated for Ag Producers
Area agricultural producers are invited to attend a free soil health workshop sponsored by Ducks Unlimited with presentations from SDSU Extension, NRCS, Ecdysis Foundation, Game, Fish and Parks, Pheasants Forever, South Dakota Soil Health Coalition and local farmers and ranchers.
The workshop will be south of Groton on Thursday, September 14, at 40998 142nd Street. It will be at the Scott Feller Farm, four miles east of Ferney. The free event will run from 2:30 to 8 pm.
Speakers will have 20-minute segments, the NRCS will have a rainfall demonstration soil pit and an interactive speaker panel will follow presentations. Topics covered will be saline/sodic issues, cover crops, increasing profitability, regenerative agriculture, diversifying your operation, livestock grazing on crop ground and soil health. Free supper and drinks will be served. This workshop is part of educational outreach effort in coordination with private, state, and federal conservation partners. Representatives of conservation organizations will be present as they work to bring better understanding of the critical importance of soil health to not only individual farming and ranching operations but to our local communities and economies.
