Free Session to Address Dementia Communication

Free Session to Address Dementia Communication
In partnership with the staff of Koch Senior Living in Milbank, the Alzheimer’s Association will offer a free presentation about Alzheimer’s and dementia entitled, Effective Communication Strategies. The event will be on Thursday, April 20, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the large conference room at Koch Senior Living, located at 410 E. 10th Avenue in Milbank. The presentation is open to the public and registration is not required.
Communication is more than just talking and listening – it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, and body language. As the disease progresses, individuals living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias lose the ability to use words, but families can find new ways to connect.
Participants will explore how communication changes when someone is living with Alzheimer’s, learn how to interpret the verbal and behavioral communication, and identify strategies to help connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.
This event will also begin the formation of a dementia support group sponsored by Koch Senior Living. For more information, call 605-438-5624, ext. 103.
