Grant County individuals and families who are in need are welcome to receive a free set of boxes of food at the food giveaway that will be today, Wednesday, October 7. The event will be staged at the Grant County 4-H grounds from 4 to 5 p.m. There are no income guidelines to partake.
The giveaway will be conducted as a drive-through event. Although the food will be prepackaged from Feeding South Dakota, the Grant County Christian Service Council coordinated the giveaway. The boxes will include dry products, frozen food and fresh produce. Those wishing to pick up food for their families can enter the 4-H grounds and receive further traffic flow instructions.
To minimize contact and comply with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, organizers ask that recipients open their trunks or back liftgates of their vehicles once they are in line, and volunteers will place the boxes in the vehicle. They also ask that an open space has been cleared for the boxes.
There will be a limit of one set of boxes per family and no more than two sets of boxes per vehicle. Those who need to pick up food for more than themselves and one other family will be required to exit the parking lot and get back in line.
The Christian Service Council is funded primarily through the Community Thrift Shop and donations.
