Food Giveaway Scheduled For October 11 in Milbank
The Grant County Christian Service Council’s final 2023 food giveaway will be on Wednesday, October 11, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Living Word Lutheran Church parking lot in northern Milbank. The giveaway is a drive-through event conducted in cooperation with Feeding South Dakota.
Because of the church’s close proximity to Highway 15, recipients are asked to arrive no earlier than 2:30 p.m., as volunteers will not be available to park vehicles until that time.
Anyone wishing to pick up food will be instructed where to enter the lot and will receive further traffic flow directions from there. Recipients will be asked to open the trunks or back liftgates of their vehicles once they are in line, and volunteers will place the boxes in the vehicle. Recipients are asked to have a space ready for the box in their vehicles so the traffic flow will not be disrupted by needing additional time to make room for the items.
Organizers note that to keep the line moving as quickly as possible, it is preferred that people only pick up food for their own families. However, they understand that many people are willing to pick up food for others. There will be a two-family limit per vehicle. Recipients will need to provide their own names as well as the family for which they’re picking up food when they enter the line.
Restrooms inside the church will be available during the event.
Feeding South Dakota requires the Christian Service Council to collect household information from each family, so recipients will be asked how many people in the family are ages 0-17, 18-59 and 60 and over.
If someone is unable to attend the giveaway, they will need to make arrangements for someone else to pick up the food, as no deliveries will be made after the event.
