Farm Service Currently Accepting Applications for Disaster Program

The Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) offers payments to eligible livestock producers with eligible livestock. It also offers payment to producers of grazed forage crop acreage. The Grant County Farm Service Agency (FSA) office is currently accepting LFP applications through January 31.
The payments help with grazing losses suffered on native or improved pastureland. This can be land with permanent or planted grazing cover.
FSA will calculate payments equal to one, three, four or five times the LFP monthly payment rate. The payment rate for drought is equal to 60 percent of the lessor of the monthly feed cost. FSA calculate this by using the normal carrying capacity of the grazing land. Since Grant County was in at least the D2 (Severe Drought) status on the Drought Monitor for at least eight consecutive weeks, livestock producers may get assistance payments equal to one month.
The Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybee and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP) provides emergency assistance to eligible livestock producers who have grazing losses not covered under the Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP), loss of purchased feed and/or mechanically harvested feed due to an eligible adverse weather event, additional cost of transporting water because of an eligible drought and additional cost associated with gathering livestock to treat for cattle tick fever.
Those with questions or wish to make a virtual appointment, contact the Grant County FSA office at 605-432-6570, ext. 2.
