Family Hosts Blood Drive in Memory of Wes Bolstad
Jen Stroschein and her family hosted a LifeServe Blood Center blood drive at the Grant County 4-H Building in honor of her late father, Wes Bolstad, a lifelong Milbank resident.
Wes received multiple blood transfusions during his medical journey.
“I had never given blood or even been aware of blood shortage issues until it affected us,” said Stroschein. “This drive was about honoring my dad while helping others. I wanted to raise awareness and turn the pain of losing him into something positive.”
Stroschein organized the event with the help of Dori Kuper, her mother, and Brynlee Green.
A total of 53 donors came out to give blood, with 50 eligible to donate.Their generosity resulted in 57 units collected – enough to potentially save or sustain as many as 171 lives.
Drive officials also welcomed 15 first-time donors. They are Jan Bauman, Jani Berens, Cheryl Breske, Bradley Buttke, Martin Dietmeier, Roger Hansen, Joyce Hermans, Richard Hermans, Karissa Karels, Jody Kuper, Catherine Sieverson, Susan Stengel, Jennifer Stroschein, Karla Wellnitz and Gary Wellnitz. Sheryl Kesti was recognized for her two gallon donation.
The next blood drive will be Tuesday, October 7, at noon to 5:30 p.m. at the Grant County 4-H building.
