Enrollment Opens for English Learners Class

Enrollment Opens for
English Learners Class
The Grant County Public Library is currently accepting registration for a new session of English Language Learners classes geared for adults. There is no charge to attend the classes.
The classes present an opportunity for those wishing to learn basic English or take their basic English skills to the next level. No prior English is needed to attend.
The classes will be conducted on Tuesdays starting January 23 and continue for 10 weeks. Each Tuesday through March 26, two sessions will be offered with a choice of two different classes at each session.
In one of the classes, the focus will be on letter sounds, basic English vocabulary and proper pronunciation of words commonly used in conversation. Colleen Natalie will lead the class with the assistance of the translator.
The other class, taught by Ann Tuscherer, will also work on sounds, vocabulary and pronunciation but will give more practice using basic English skills, advance into more grammar and expand vocabulary. Each of the classes will be available at both of the scheduled Tuesday sessions.
Participants can choose to attend sessions slated either from 2 to 3 p.m. or 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Classes will start promptly at the start time, so participants are asked to arrive at the scheduled time excited to learn the needed English language skills.
The classes are coordinated by the library staff and are staged at the library. The new round of classes will be the fifth time the opportunity has been offered in the community. The first two sessions were funded by a grant. The third session was sponsored by a partnership with Valley Queen and United Hardware. The last two sessions have been made possible by a donation from Whetstone Valley Electric Cooperative and a matching grant from CoBank.
To register for the classes, call the library at 605-432-6543, email gclibrary21@hotmail.com or visit the library during normal operating hours. The library is open Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
