Emanuel Lutheran Preschool Trike-a-thon, 2019

The students at Emanuel Lutheran Preschool revved up their bikes, trikes and scooters to raise money during the annual trike-a-thon Monday and Tuesday, May 13 and 14, 2019. After a few weather delays, the kids were excited to be able to peddle through the course set up by Milbank Police officers. Preschool helper, Lori Stuckey and officer Cory Hooth helped the students get started on the course and then Boyd VanVooren, police chief, and Karen Tillma, teacher, kept the kids on course.
Twenty-nine four-year-olds and 23 three-year-olds participated in the two-day event. They raised $1,610 which will be donated to the summer Milbank Area Backpack Program. “The backpack program was really struggling for funds, so we decided that we would ride in support of this great program,” Tillma said. Other years the group has supported St. Jude Children’s Hospital, but this year decided to help an organization in the local community. “Through the trike-a-thon, the children learn about bike safety and about generosity. We talk about putting others first and being generous with not only our money but our time,” Tillma said.
