Eli Fischer Earns State Wrestling Championship


WORKING FOR THE PIN Bulldog senior, Eli Fischer, has control of his Lennox opponent in the opening round of the state wrestling meet. Fischer emerged with a 14-4 major decision win.
Bulldog Eli Fischer Earns State Wrestling Title at 126 Pounds
Senior Bulldog Eli Fischer was crowned state champion in the 126-pound weight class at the state Class A wrestling tournament Thursday-Saturday, February 27-March 1 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls.
Bulldog Toby Schneck was the other place winner for Milbank, taking fifth in the 182-pound weight class. Fischer went 4-0 individually en route to his state title and Schneck was 4-2 overall.
Seven Milbank Area wrestlers qualified and competed at the state event. Finishing their high school careers at the state meet were seniors Fischer, Brady Femling, Brodie Holtquist and Dillon Schneck.
“Our guys competed and battled hard. We are very happy for Eli. He put it all together in his last state tournament to become a state champion,” said Jeremy Tostenson, coach. “We are also very proud of Toby. He battled some injuries late in the season and overcame that and earned a spot on the podium.”
Milbank came in 17th place out of 33 teams and accrued 42 points. Rapid City Stevens won the team title with 159 points.
Individual results for the Milbank Area wrestlers are as follows:
126 – Eli Fischer won by 14-4 major decision over Brandon Otte of Lennox; won by 12-2 major decision over Thomas McCoy of Belle Fourche; won by 6-4 decision over Jacob Vogel of Dell Rapids, and won by 3-2 decision over Riley Hollingshead of Sioux Falls Roosevelt in the championship match.
132 – Barrett Schneck lost by fall (3:56) to Ty Althoff of Watertown and lost by 2-1 decision to Corter Doney of Rapid City Stevens.
138 – Brady Femling lost by fall (4:19) to Jaxson Waugh of Watertown and lost by 9-0 major decision to Kyler Lillie of Yankton.
152 – Leyton Raffety lost by fall (3:54) to Eli Kadoun of Sioux Falls Roosevelt and lost by fall (4:34) to Jaxon Bowes of Brookings.
160 – Dillon Schneck lost by fall (0:30) to Colby Mennis of Madison; won by fall (5:15) over Tyson Degen of Mitchell, and lost by fall (2:09) to Garrett Mitzel of Aberdeen Central.
182 – Toby Schneck won by fall (5:34) over Aaron Foote of West Central; lost by injury default to Damion Schunke of Brandon Valley; won by 4-3 decision over Derek Webster of Spearfish; won by 7-2 decision over Blake Larsen of Huron; lost by 12-0 major decision to Jayden Hartford of Watertown, and won by 10-3 decision over True Synhorst of Rapid City Stevens in the fifth place match.
195 – Brodie Holtquist won by fall (2:56) over Clayton Smith of Sturgis Brown; lost by 7-1 decision to Regan Bollweg of Pierre TF Riggs, and lost by 7-4 decision to Dillon Stoebner of Aberdeen Central.
