Culminate with Color Run
Students from the Milbank Elementary School are undertaking a new fundraising activity for Parents Promoting Education (PPE) this year. They have begun seeking donations from trusted family and friends and will do so through Friday, September 9.
To donate, contact a family with elementary-aged children or mail a check to the Milbank School District, c/o PPE, 1001 East Park Avenue, Milbank, SD 57252.
The fundraising drive will conclude with all Milbank Elementary students who wish to competing in a color run. Organizers reasoned that the new event would get the kids moving and increase excitement. The color run will be Thursday, September 15, in front of the elementary school.
The public is invited to turn out and cheer for the runners. The junior kindergarten students will compete at 11:30 a.m. and the kindergarten through fifth graders at 1 p.m. Spectators are asked to park in the high school parking lot because the elementary parking lot and part of South Ninth Street will be closed to traffic.
As the students compete in the color run, they will pass through eight color zones sponsored by local businesses. Volunteers at each zone will toss non-toxic colored powder when students pass by.
PPE is a parent-led volunteer group that helps support students and staff at Milbank Elementary School. The group helps fund various school projects, including field trips, financial assistance to students, artists in residence, Read Across America Week, teacher appreciation week, field day, playground equipment, building supplies, student and staff recognition, lyceums and more. PPE representatives report that they hope to add an outdoor library to the school this year.
While the group members hope for outstanding community contributions, no minimum fundraising is needed by each student to complete the color run. Every student will be able to join the fun. Additionally, prizes will be awarded to top earners in each grade and to the top earning class overall.
