Drive Sober Campaign Underway in Milbank
Officers with the Milbank Police Department will partner with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety, for the upcoming Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over national campaign. The high visibility enforcement event began Wednesday, August 19, and continues through Labor Day, Monday, September 7.
The Milbank Police Department, along with law enforcement agencies from across the state and nation, will be conducting extra patrols and increased enforcement efforts during this time. “We will be utilizing local media outlets and our Milbank Police Department Facebook page to inform and educate citizens about this event as well,” commented Jake Folk, school resource officer. “The increased enforcement action and education efforts are made with the primary goal of keeping all motorists safe and reducing the amount of people seriously injured or killed in impaired driving crashes.”
Officers ask that motorists be responsible and plan ahead if their festivities include consuming alcoholic beverages. The plan includes ensuring that they and others have a safe way to get home, as well as designating a sober driver.
Any citizen who sees an impaired driver, should call 911 for immediate assistance. Staff at the Milbank Police Department extend best wishes to all for a safe and enjoyable upcoming Labor Day weekend and remainder of summer.
