Dirtwork Begins for New
Campground Sites at Farley

Work is beginning on a plan to remove the existing 10 camping sites at Lake Farley Park and construct 23 new spots in a new location. The construction of the new baseball complex in the south part of the park has created the need to eliminate the existing sites, according to Mayor Pat Raffety.
The council awarded a contract for the dirtwork to J&J Earthworks for $299,778 during the September 14 meeting. “It’s been an unspoken goal to expand the camping at Lake Farley Park,” commented Mayor Pat Raffety. “We have a wonderful park, and it will be nice to offer more camping area out there.”
In contrast to the current, functional sites near the park entrance, the new camping spots will be more scenic, according to Raffety. About 10 of the new sites will be established along the Lake Farley shoreline, west of the beach area. Others will be lined out to the south, along the west property line.
The work this fall will include moving dirt, grading and packing graveled parking pads. Next year, the sites will be surfaced, and full hookups for electrical and septic service will be added.
The existing sites will stay in place until the new ones are ready to be rented out, as long as they don’t interfere with the construction of the baseball park, Raffety indicated.
