Davis Uses Chalk Ministry to Illustrate Biblical Principles

Chalk art evangelist, Randy Davis, will bring his unique ministry to Milbank when he makes presentations at Central United Methodist Church later this month.

Davis Uses Chalk Ministry to
Illustrate Biblical Principles

Randy Davis, chalk artist and lay Bible teacher, uses his talents to convey Biblical principles in a way that is applicable in today’s modern living. He will make three presentations at Central United Methodist Church on Sunday, February 23. The first is between services at 9:45 a.m. The others will be at 2 and 7 p.m. A free-will donation will be accepted.
The presentations include incredibly detailed, stunning chalk art, uplifting music and visually illustrated messages. Davis creates powerful chalk drawings as those in attendance are watching. He is known for having a hidden picture within the work, which is revealed only when a special black light is added to heighten the effect.
“Chalk art is certainly an important part of the presentations. However, the visual Bible teaching is the foundation of this ministry,” Davis said.
Davis is from Ottumwa, IA, and founded Drawing Closer Ministries in the 1980s. Since that time, he has traveled extensively in the midwest, and he has also been in demand nationwide.
While working as a young adult Sunday school teacher in 1983, Davis began to visualize how artistry could be used to complement the lessons to convey spiritual truths. With no formal training in art, Davis formed Drawing Closer Ministries in 1987.
Davis approaches his ministry as a lay teacher; he is not a preacher or pastor. He designed the presentations to support, strengthen and encourage local churches. Davis is joined in the performances by his wife, Shirley, who is a vocalist and provides additional special music.
While children and young people do enjoy the ministry and are often captivated by it, Davis reports that it is primarily geared to adults or the entire congregation as a whole.
The presentations will be in the sanctuary of the church, which is located at 201 S. 5th Street in Milbank. Contact the church office at 605-432-4766 for more information.
