City Resurfaces Walking Path in Pribyl Park, Works on Drainage

Grading work and the addition of three culverts strategically located beneath the walking and biking path in Pribyl Park should help alleviate some of the water issues city residents have encountered, according to John Forman, city administrator.
“We made a series of minor drainage improvements in various locations to try to get the water to the main drainage ditch more efficiently,” Forman said. “We hope we have solved the big puddle that gathers along the north section of the pathway.” The grading and culverts cost about $15,000 from the parks budget.
Repairs were also made to the pathway where there were issues such as failing or broken asphalt. A section of the walking path that was too close to the baseball field in Pribyl Park was removed. It was replaced with a stretch that is nearer the parking area west of the ballfield. The new segment extends from behind the bleachers to the south and then ties into the existing path beyond the right-field fence.
The path, which is about eight feet wide and one and one-quarter miles long, was resurfaced on Thursday, September 24, by crews from Bituminous Paving Inc. The city had budgeted for the paving cost of approximately $65,000 under the parks department.
Forman notes that with the addition of the new asphalt, the water flow may change, and crews may need to adjust the drainage again next year.
