City of Big Stone City Council Proceedings

 

January 4, 2021
5:30 p.m.
The Big Stone City council met in regular session on Monday, January 4, 2021. Meeting began at 5:30 p.m. with Mayor Wiik presiding. Roll Call: Roscoe, Athey, Stoddard, Redfield, Brown and Longhenry present. Others present: George Boos, Robert Athey, Bryan Austin, Maria Loughlin, Teresa Goergen, Margaret Kuefler, Julie Enstad, Joe Wiik, Pat Kaiser and Steve Weber. 
The Pledge of Allegiance and the South Dakota State Pledge were recited.  Motion to accept the minutes from the December 30 meeting was made by Brown and seconded by Redfield. All in favor, motion carried.
The following claims were presented for payment

Motion to pay the presented claims was made by Longhenry and seconded by Stoddard. All in favor, motion. Motion carried.
Deputy Sheriff Folk submitted the following report, December’s Sheriff’s office report: Hours: 101 hrs. and 40 minutes, subject to call 24 hours per day. Written citations: 2; Written warnings: 6. Investigations/events and incidents responded to: 1 suspicious activity call, 1 stranded motorist, a suspected vandalism call, investigated illegal drug activity, responded to two burglar alarms, and two ongoing investigations into stolen vehicles. 
Motion was made by Athey and seconded by Roscoe for a resolution for employees’ wages. All in favor. Motion carried

A public hearing was held on a One Day Special Event Liquor License for the Fire Department. After a brief discussion, a motion was made by Athey and seconded by Redfield to approve the license. All in favor, motion carried.
Discussion about this year’s election was made to be set on April 13th.  
Councilman Longhenry discussed the plan to continue planning for last year’s 135th and this year’s 136th  celebration, on the second weekend of July. July 9th, 10th, and 11th. 
Mayor Wiik presented a letter of resignation for police officer Goergen. With the absences of policer officer Goergen effective the new year, 2021.
Bryan Austin brought upon discussion about the possible automatic reading infrastructure. Further research and discussion  to find out more information. 
Being no further business a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Athey and seconded by Brown.  Motion carried.
