Chamber Discontinues Farm and Home Show
The Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce executive board issued a formal announcement on Monday, January 9, explaining that there are no plans to host the annual Grant County Farm and Home Show this year or in future years.
“The Grant County Farm and Home Show has been a long-standing tradition for over 70 years,” commented Jamie Henderson, interim executive director of the chamber. “It is truly the end of an era, but we are excited for the opportunity to evolve and create new ways to meet the needs of our chamber members and the community. The Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to continue to work with the Milbank School District in the future, as new partnership opportunities arise.”
The announcement cites a decline in attendance and limited availability of venue locations as the primary forces behind the decision. The chamber representatives expressed appreciation to the area businesses and community members for their support over the years.
The announcement indicated the board is currently reevaluating the event offerings provided by the chamber. According to the information released, the chamber board would like to continue honoring the area’s agricultural heritage and create new opportunities as Milbank grows. New events and opportunities will be announced through the local media and the chamber’s social media outlets.
Except for the past two years, the Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce has coordinated and presented the annual Grant County Farm and Home Show for 72 years. There was no show in 2021 because of safety precautions surrounding Covid-19, and in 2022, the show that would have been the 73rd was canceled when a severe winter storm rolled through the region.
