Bloodmobile Slated at Grant County 4-H Complex

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Milbank, and area residents can donate blood on Wednesday, February 15, from noon to 6 p .m. at the Grant County 4-H complex. The building is located at 517 Flynn Drive.
Individuals who donate blood in February can receive a $10 gift card and have the chance to win a trip to Florida. To schedule an appointment for the upcoming Bloodmobile visit, contact Lori Dietmeier at 605-467-3280 or go online to rcblood.org/heart or  redcrossblood.org and use sponsor code MilbankSD or 57252 in the search window.
Many donors like to install the Red Cross Blood app on their phones. They do Rapid Pass on their phones before they come to the drive, saving time answering questions at the blood drive. Everybody gets a finger poke to check hemoglobin levels and vital signs to assure donors are okay to give.
Donors are reminded to drink plenty of fluids in the days before the blood drive and to eat nutritious foods. Eating breakfast and lunch before giving is essential to prevent post-donation problems.
Winter weather and seasonal illness can negatively impact the supply of blood and blood products, according to the American Red Cross. Hospitals and trauma centers need blood products stocked on the shelves for use at a moment’s notice. Each day, the American Red Cross must collect more than 13,000 blood and platelet donations for patients at approximately 2,600 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide. For more information or answers to specific questions, call the American Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767.
