Banded Bird Contest Opens
Pheasants Forever Kicks Off
Annual Banded Bird Contest
In preparation for the pheasant hunting season in Grant County, members of the local Pheasants Forever group have banded and released 30 of the game birds on public walk-in hunting areas and South Dakota game production areas within 12 miles of Milbank.
When hunters harvest birds with the special leg bands, they are to take the bands to UPI Petroleum in Milbank for verification. At that point, the hunters will win instant prizes. Their names will also be entered into the end-of-the-season grand prize drawing.
This year, the pheasant hunting season begins with the South Dakota youth season from September 28 to October 6. The South Dakota resident-only season is October 12 to 14, and the regular season starts October 19.
The banded bird contest is open to any properly licensed hunter. All bands must be verified by January 31, 2025, to qualify for the contest.
