Author Trent Preszler to Speak at Library Event
Members of the Friends of the Library will host an author talk luncheon, featuring author Trent Preszler, on Thursday, June 27, at the Grant County Public Library.
The public is invited to attend the free event.
Preszler, author of Little and Often, will speak at noon, after a lunch of walking tacos served at 11:30 a.m. Preszler’s book hit number one on the Amazon Books best sellers list and was named a best book of 2021 by USA Today.
The members of the South Dakota Humanities Council named Little and Often to be the book featured for the 2024 South Dakota One Book program. The program has encouraged people across South Dakota to read and discuss the same book throughout the course of the year since 2003.
Preszler grew up on a cattle ranch located between Faith and Lemmon but has spent much of his adult life in and around New York City. The contrast between those settings is at the heart of the book and influences his experiences and writings.
Little and Often is promoted as a memoir of grief, love, the shattered bond between a father and son and the healing of a broken heart.
Preszler, after years of estrangement from his father, his father’s death, and an unexpected inheritance, decided to build a wooden canoe and set a goal to paddle it on the first anniversary of his father’s death. Through the venture, Preszler was given a different perspective on life, and the means to change it.
The members of the Friends of the Grant County Public Library are excited to have been chosen for the grant through the South Dakota Humanities Council to bring this opportunity to Grant County residents.
According to library staff, the book is a great discussion book and having the opportunity to converse with the author is sure to be even more unique. They hope many aspects to the story will resonate deeply with many local readers.
