Amy Thue of Whimsy on Main in Milbank was recognized for her efforts to promote the love of reading in Milbank students. She was named the True Friend of Education by the Milbank Education Association (MEA) and was presented a plaque at the monthly meeting of the Milbank School District’s Board of Education Monday, November 11.
Josh Schmeichel, president of MEA, made the presentation and thanked Thue for her contributions. He noted that Whimsy on Main, which Thue co-owns with her sister, Sara Snaza, has donated more than 100 books to the school district in recent years. Last year they donated the book Ghost to every sixth grader in the district. “I know the teachers appreciate the books, and the students enjoy them,” said Schmeichel.
Whimsy on Main also hosted a contest for middle and high school students and offered books as prizes.
Thue has served as a volunteer track coach since 2014, and has been a member of the school board for five years.
The MEA annually selects a True Friend of Education honoree in conjunction with American Education Week which is November 18-22 this year.
